The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino is located on the Las Vegas Strip and is owned by the Las Vegas Sands Corporation. It features three facilities: The Palazzo and The Venetian Hotels as well as The Sands Expo Convention Center. The Venetian serves as the headquarters of the corporation.
Against All Odds
In the news: Big winners bucket lists
The story of the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino is the story of the late Sheldon G. Adelson; the man who conceived the idea of creating this integrated resort. This innovative leader was not always an hotelier. As a matter of fact, he started off as a techie and went on to acquire the Sands Hotel (Las Vegas) in 1989.
This change of ownership marked the beginning of great things for the Sands and within a year The Sands Expo and Convention Center was opened. But the story wasn’t all rosy; the Sands was having trouble staying afloat and Adelson had to do something fast.
It was a trip to Venice with his wife that changed the tides for the hotel as Adelson came up with an ambitious plan to bring this romantic city to Las Vegas. So the Sands bowed out in 1996 and The Venetian took the stage in 1999.
Many thought that The Venetian would flop; no else in the market had dared to venture away from the core business of gambling and tried to woo the non-gaming clientele. But to their greatest surprise, the casino resort was a success so much so that the corporation would venture into Singapore and Macau.
The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino has earned its place in history as a picture of what happens when one person follows their dream. The fact that Sheldon G. Adelson and his team of believers dared to diversify their income and actually saw more money come in from the convention center than from the casino goes to show that there are no impossibilities for those who stand unafraid.
It’s Still About the Dice
Yes, the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino has won the hearts of non-gamblers but it has not forgotten those who love to play and has created an exciting environment for them. It begins at the slot machines where you can choose between the 1,247 offered at the Venetian or the 1,038 waiting for you at the Palazzo.
You can then move on to the tables where the menu includes Fortune Asia Poker, Sic Bo and Roulette. Finally, you can finish off with a nail-biting Poker tournament and hopefully by the time you leave the casino your pockets will be heavier than when you came in.
Present Day Venetian Las Vegas
A lot has changed since the Sands Hotel went down: the convention center has grown to more than 2.25 million square feet of space for hire. In addition, the resort now hosts several celebrity chefs including “Cake Boss” Buddy Valastro and Mario Batali. It has also added the popular TAO Night Club and the Lagasse’s Stadium to its list of attractions.
