The Casino at the Empire is one of London’s most famous casinos. It is found within the iconic Empire Theatre on Leicester Square and is owned by Caesars Entertainment UK.
Part of a Rich History
It is impossible to tell the story of the Casino at the Empire without mentioning its worthy host. The story therefore begins in 1884 when the Empire Theatre first opened as a variety theatre that came to be known as The Empire Theatre of Varieties. It later changed its name to the Empire Theatre only to be torn down in 1927.
Fortunately, the story didn’t end there and the theatre re-opened its doors in 1928 but this time around it was designed for the movies and served as a cinema. The final re-invention came in 1962 and gave us the theatre as we know it today.
One of the new additions to the old theatre was the ballroom that lies under the theater; it is this ballroom that is known today as The Casino at the Empire. This popular gaming destination opened its doors in 2007. It is not a members’ only club and anyone who can prove that they are over 18 is welcome to play.
