Owned and operated by MGM Resorts International, MGM Grand Las Vegas is one of the largest hotel casinos in the world. It is also home to the MGM Grand Garden Arena where the likes of Cher and the Bee Gees have performed.
The MGM Grand Las Vegas that we know today began in 1993 and looked quite different from what it is today. Back then, the hotel’s ambiance took you back to the Wizard of Oz (quite literally) complete with replicas of all its main characters as well as the Oz Casino.
From 1996, the Oz theme gave way to a more laid back theme and the iconic Leo statue took its place at the entrance of the casino. The hotel’s management also began to reach out to non-gambling clients and created the MGM Grand Adventures Theme Park which didn’t do too well.
All the same, innovative projects that are geared towards enhancing customer experiences have seen the MGM Grand Las Vegas take its place among the most elaborate hotels in the world. The facility boasts of 5,000 rooms, a pool complex that covers six acres and the David Copperfield show.
Not Easily Forgotten
For many people the letters ‘MGM’ are synonymous with classic movies that many cannot forget. However, the resort that bears this name has also etched permanent memories into the minds of many. This is particularly true for boxing fans who watched Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield battle it out at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
This Las Vegas casino has also given permanent residence to the legendary Canadian entertainment group Cirque du Soleil. And in keeping with its endeavor to entertain the masses the casino has been featured in various films and TV productions including Ocean’s Eleven and The Amazing Race.
